Have your plans changed for 2020/21?
Are you now thinking of staying in Jersey next year?
We understand that, because of the current coronavirus pandemic, this is an unsettling time for all students. If you have been offered at place to study in the UK for next academic year, you may be wondering how the current situation will affect your studies, whether you should defer your offer for a year, or even if you should re-think your options.
If so, why not take a look at what the Institute of Law has to offer?

We still have places available on the following courses for September 2020:

How you will be taught in 2020/21
As “social distancing” is likely to remain for some considerable time, we have adapted our teaching to the situation. For 2020/21 we will deliver all lectures online. Tutorials will take place via interactive online sessions in small groups. Therefore, we will be ready to teach you in September, irrespective of any restrictions that the government may have in place.
The timings of our tutorials will remain the same. They will all take place after 17:30 on weekdays or at the weekends. This means you have the option to work as well as studying if you wish.
We are confident that the tuition you will receive, and your overall experience in 2020/21, will be as good as, if not better than, ever.
Extra curricular activities
Rest assured, we will still be able to offer you a full student experience. We would particularly point to the following:
- Our classes are much smaller than mainstream universities, so we are able to provide you with a truly personalised approach and much greater interaction with those teaching you.
- You will have a personal tutor who will oversee your academic studies and pastoral care. Your tutor will arrange one-to-one meetings with you throughout the year and provide you with individual support carefully matched to your needs.
- We organise an interactive induction programme at the start of the academic year offering you a wide range of cultural, academic and social activities.
- We are planning to continue with our exciting mooting competition online.
- If, because of ongoing restrictions we are unable to arrange court visits, we shall explore a UK court “virtually”, so that you can discover what life is like in a real courtroom.
- In September 2020, we will launch a programme of virtual work experience with selected Jersey law firms. Even if “social-distancing” or travel restrictions are still in place – and you cannot visit a law firm in person to gain important work experience – you will still be able to enjoy the benefits of such schemes through our virtual work-experience programme.
What if I am unable to come to the Institute because of Covid-19 restrictions?
As long as you can access to the internet, you will be able to undertake your course safely wherever you are based.
We hope that you will enjoy studying with us as much as we will enjoy teaching you
If you have any queries about any of our courses, please do not hesitate to get in touch. The Director of Administration, Murielle Nicolas, and her team are on hand to assist in any way they can.
